Who is Jamie Dawn Elms?

I am an independent journalist, documentarian, public transit and queer rights activist, and historian. My work focuses on the intersection of public infrastructure, railway history, digital preservation, queer advocacy, and independent media systems. Whether documenting the intricate logistics of European rail networks or critiquing culture and systems within the video game industry, my career is dedicated to producing deep-dive, authentic public interest media unconstrained by algorithmic platforms, often with a humorous slant.

The Foundation and Background

My path in media began at fifteen years old with the launch of my very first YouTube channel. Guided by a passion for narrative and investigative analysis, I was first published at nineteen. At twenty-one, I produced and directed the documentary series The Art of Failure, a series focused on some of the highest profile failures in the video game industry at that time and interviews with the people behind them.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Writing (2020) from the University of Victoria. This rigorous formal background in narrative structure and journalism laid the foundation for my professional tenure across investigative journalism, commercial creative industries, and large-scale digital video production.

My professional media milestones include:

  • Investigative Journalism: Reporting and writing for The Capital Daily, focusing on regional policy and community-driven narratives.
  • Games Journalism and Criticism: Contributing long-form features and reviews for Mega Visions Magazine, Infinite Frontiers, and Dread Central.
  • Video Essay Production: Scriptwriting for the deeply analytical documentary channel Faultline, and producing comprehensive video content for major gaming outlets including The Gamer and Supremacy Games.
  • Games Industry Systems: Contributing to major global intellectual properties, including world-building and narrative frameworks within the Warhammer 40,000 universe and previous creator collaboration with Ubisoft Canada.
  • Public Speaking: Featured speaking guest at events such as Gamescom Congress, Devcom, Devgamm Lisbon, Pax East, Hit Games Conference, and Innotrans.

Beyond media production, my background includes dedicated grassroots activism for the LGBTQ+ community in Germany, Canada, and around the world. As a visible trans woman in media, I combine my passions for gaming, community building, and human rights advocacy by organizing and hosting high-impact charity events including Trash Games for Charity and LGBTQIO.

Today, I live in Bremerhaven, Germany with my husband Alexander and our cat Tiberius. Professionally, I operate as a regular creative collaborator alongside prominent voices across the transit and gaming landscapes, including Stotakk Transit, Brusco the Boar, G to the Next Level, and Jonii.

The Network: Content and Community Built to Last

This digital hub launched on 6 July 2026. It exists not simply as a static gallery, but as a fully sovereign, self-hosted sanctuary for content, criticism, and community interaction completely decoupled from corporate platforms. My active projects include:

  • Stuff We Play (Established 2016): Founded during my university tenure, this platform serves as an analytical lens into interactive media, software design history, and raw independent game critique.
  • Speedrun Podcast (Established 2020): Launched alongside my co-host Jazzie as a pandemic passion project, Speedrun has evolved into a byte-size audio archive tracking video game culture, tech history, and interactive design in sub-20 minute episodes.
  • Tales from the S-Bahn / TFTSB (Established 2024): Born out of a commitment to public transit policy and rail infrastructure, TFTSB expands my research into a tangible multimedia asset library documenting transport systems and modern public infrastructure challenges. Content is spread across multiple platforms across long-form video, short form reels, and written formats.
